If you are a professional working in a warehouse and need to scan and move boxes you will probably know how important it is to keep your hands free in order to not interrupt your work every minute. Gun shaped barcode scanners aren’t the best solution for mobile workers that’s why some companies came up with the idea of creating new scanning solutions that are comfortable to wear.
Honeywell has various solutions for professional use. What do you think about a ring instead of the gun-shaped barcode scan? The Honeywell 8650 ring scanner is an easy-to-wear and use productivity tool. It combines Bluetooth® wireless connectivity with hands-free usability and a range of scanning options. It reads both 1D and 2D barcodes, and features enhanced white LED illumination. Strap and connector design allows workers to wear the scanner on the back of the hand or on the arm – left or right. The small, lightweight device rests on the finger, with the Bluetooth® module worn on the wrist. Once in use, the Bluetooth ring scanner reliably transmits critical data from up to 30 feet away.
Proglove was a finalist of the WT | Innovation World Cup 2015 for the category Safety&Security and a winner of the IoT/M2M Innovation World Cup for the Category Industry 4.0. They launched Mark, a smart glove for scanning goods and for industrial use such us production and logistics. Process steps can be documented hands-free via 2D barcode engine. Therefore, tracking and tracing parcel or manufacturing parts come down to a simple glove scan. The worker gets direct feedback to their working steps via optical, acoustic, and even haptic feedback. Integrated gesture sensors open the possibility for gesture control. The core of the design of the smart glove ‘Mark’ is an implemented computer unit and a working glove that can be easily replaced when it wears out.
Zebra Technologies also developed a Bluetooth ring scanner that will assist you in troubleshooting most common issues on your mobile computing device. The ring includes programmable LED lights that are in the user’s direct line of sight. With support for multiple colors, you can provide color-coded feedback to direct user activity.

We all want a pair.
One week ago, I had virtually zero interest in owning a pair of Snap Spectacles, the company’s new video recording sunglasses.
On Saturday, I contemplated the six-hour drive from San Francisco to LA to buy a pair out of a vending machine. What a difference a week can make.
The rollout of Spectacles has been, well, a spectacle. Everywhere Snap drops a Snapbot, the big yellow vending machines that serve as temporary storefronts for the glasses, crowds line up, dozens of people deep, and spend their hours waiting in line posting and tweeting about how excited they are to get their hands on some Spectacles.
It’s been a touch of marketing genius.
Snap isn’t going to make much money selling smart glasses one vending machine-full at a time. But that’s not the point. Instead, what the company has done is create the kind of buzz and excitement around a product — and thus the Snap brand, which is prepping for an IPO — that we haven’t seen in a long, long time.
How, exactly, did that happen?
The reality is that Spectacles aren’t going to be big business for Snap, at least not anytime soon. The company wouldn’t sell them out of vending machines if it was trying to make money here.
But Spectacles are giving Snap a new wave of momentum just before it plans to IPO — and the idea that it could sell a lot of glasses has been planted in everyone’s mind. And that feeling isn’t ephemeral.
Snapchat's early distribution plan for their camera glasses? An interactive, happy-looking vending machine called the Snapbot. The company's first hardware venture will be distributed exclusively through the Snapbot, at least at first.

The iBand+ wearable is all about sleep because it is vital for optimal health and happiness. However, instead of the average sleep tracking package, the iBand+ is aimed to induce sleep and lucid dreaming. MotionCure developed by Sidis labs is a big thing for people who suffer from motion sickness. It is a neck brace that looks like a cross between cervical collar worn after a whiplash injury and airplane travel pillow. It alleviates motion sickness symptoms through both pulsation technology and magnetics. A series of pulses are transmitted to the brain through both the median nerve at the back of the neck and the inner ear’s vestibular which gives your brain a sense of motion, equilibrium and spatial orientation. The customized frequencies sent to the body and brain help reduce symptoms of motion sickness. Additionally, the MotionCure addresses motion sickness by creating a negative magnetic field that surrounds the neck and the base of the brain where motion sickness-related signals are first intercepted.
Relief Band
Relief Band is a solution for motion sickness which is clinically proven. The technology is technically known as neuromodulation, which uses neural pathways in the body to block the waves of nausea coming from the stomach. Neuromodulation generates signals that go to the user’s central nervous system to the part of the brain responsible for the feeling of nausea. The neural pathways between the brain and the stomach is controlled to relieve the feeling of nausea. One more thing, to use the Relief Band, you first need to find the area between the two tendons on your wrist, then measure two finger lengths from the first crease in you wrist. When you fasten the Relief Band with its strap, you will be in control of your nausea levels.

Flashback to only a year ago when the gap between fashion and technology began its development. At that time, the fashion industry jumped into the tech landscape and wondered how and if wearables could be more trendy rather than geek chic. Today, across New York, London, Paris and Milan, technology was paraded along the runway together with fashion.
Partnering with Hussein Chalayan, Intel appears at Paris Fashion Week as a stress and fear monitoring device in the shape of fashion eyewear. As models walked the runway, their stress levels were showcased on the wall beside them. The glasses were connected with the belt that they are wearing. The data was communicated to the belt via Bluetooth and then it projected imagery reflecting their emotions.
For spring 2017, designer Karl Lagerfeld also brought technology to the runway. He focused on the innards of computers- the data, the algorithms and microchips- instead of the gleaming exterior. Chanel opened the show with LED technology. The flashing green lights from the supercomputer were mirrored in LEDs that appeared on Chanel’s handbags and two robot-dressed models. Chanel has been trying to sort out its relationship with technology, looking for the ways in which technology tucked into clothes can improve our lives, or at least make fashion become more interesting.
Moving to London Fashion Week, we could see that virtual reality had its place this fashion week. Martine Jarlgaard London met with Hololens glasses to create a mixed reality experience. It means guests could walk around and explore them in more detail while also seeing the rest of the room at the same time.
There were also another augmented reality shows up at New York Fashion Week by Rebecca Minkoff. It is to help real women shop the look live. It means they’ll be able to see how Minkoff’s newest line looks on their body with an app named Zeekit. How does it work? You upload a photo of yourself, pick out clothing items and Zeekit will immediately overlay them on your body based on the size that you choose.

While all brand owners would all like to think their product is the best in the marketplace, what I believe truly sets brand owners apart from their competitors is the customer experience and to know what your customer wants before they even want it. Wearable products can support brand owners to do just that, by giving them an entire set of new tools to interact with the end customer at the point of sale. These days mobile and web-savvy customers expect retailers to keep pace with emerging technology trends taking the entire customer journey to another level. Through the use of new technologies, such as Wearables the customer’s journey can become a memorable experience. North Face, Tommy Hilfiger, and other brands give their retail customers VR goggles to experience the brand while they sit in the store.
Looking into the nearer future the key objective for all brands will be to provide a personalized and direct communication with the end user. Wearable products will play a paramount role in this requirement as a starting point for direct communication based on collected data and ensuring the end customer has a positive experience of the brand. Brands will require partners to support this agile and dynamic POS environment in order to explore the full potential and herein lies the potential for Wearables to make their impact.
What is a common mistake tech companies make when they expand their business to other countries?
The inability to think global but act local, a common mistake often made is that one size fits all. It is a well-known story that when KFC took its brand to China they translated its infamous slogan “Finger-lickin’ good” to a not-so-appetizing phrase: “Eat your fingers off.” While translations are a law on to themselves so also are duties, taxes, and payments, for example, in France customers expect different payment methods than in Germany or Brazil.
Retail partners also can vary quite dramatically, each stipulating very different distribution guidelines and when not adhered to are often the cause of the product not being received at the back door. Wearables companies need to choose the right partners wisely to fully avoid the above pitfalls.
What is your favorite Wearable at the moment? Do you wear one regularly?
As the VP of Global Business Development in Arvato, I am in a very unique position in that I get to try the products of our clients on a regular basis. I have had the privilege to test the Oculus, Fitbit, Doppler Labs and The Sony VR. On a regular basis I use the Fitbit Blaze, but look forward to the day when that “one chip” that I can take anywhere will transfer all of my health data to my iPhone.

Yesterday, on 3 November 2016 the new Fitness watch from Huawei was presented in Munich. The new Huawei Fit MES B-19 has some nifty features. First, it impressed the Smartwatch market with a 6-days battery life which is achieved through the energy-saving e-ink display. Second and equally important, Huawei Fit MES B-19 was the first Asian customer to get its new Fitness watch tested through TÜV SÜD’s test specifications. Asli Solmaz-Kaiser, Vice President, Global Head Electrical and Electronics at TÜV SÜD comments: “With this certification mark Huawei proves that the quality of the new Fitness Watch MES-B19 even exceeds the regular regulatory requirements.”
Huawei Fit MES B-19 went through extensive test program
TÜV SÜD testing services test wristbands for requirements like the sensitivity of the step counter so that small hand movements are not mistakenly counted as steps. Additionally in the case of the Huawei watch the strap and clasp were examined as well as impact, scratch, fall resistance, and the accuracy of the pulse monitor. The watch was also tested for water resistance for up to 5 bar. Besides the actual product also the production plants are checked by TÜV SÜD. The testing criteria for the mark were developed based on numerous test standards such as EN 600950-1 / A2, EN 60529 and EN 60065.
Huawei Fit MES B-19 is approved
“The market for wearable technologies is booming. Consumers wear their devices 24/7. Therefore, the question for personal safety is particularly important. The TÜV SÜD certification mark is intended to provide customers with safety guidance.” said Solmaz- Kaiser and continues, “We not only provide consumers with safety and reliability but also for the manufacturers”.
