Progressing the Wearable Experience in a Nixon Way – Interview with Nixon

Last month at Baselworld we met Nixon and discovered their new wearable : The Mission. A resistant smartwatch made for the young and sporty community that follows the Nixon brand. Built on the latest technology from Google’s Android Wear™ smartwatch platform and the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 2100 system-on-chip (SoC), The Mission features a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports such as Surfing and Snowboarding. The Mission app places live conditions information at a glance of the wrist and features a custom activity-tracking application developed in partnership with Trace. To learn more about The Mission we interviewed Joe Babcock – Director of Product-Hardgoods at Nixon.

1.How Nixon entered the wearables “game”? What made Nixon say yes to the wearable wave?

Nixon said yes to watch progression since day one. We have a long history of innovating watches to enhance the time telling experience from both an aesthetic and technical standpoint. For example, the Ultratide. It is one of the most reputable surf watches in the market. The ultratide pipes live surf conditions directly to the wrist via Bluetooth using surfline tide tada. We are fascinated by wearable technology and plan on progressing the wearable experience in an authentic Nixon way.

2.Do you think the Nixon community will embrace The Mission?

Yes, completely. The product makes sense and is built to take you into the great outdoors and back. On the day of our product announcement we were overwhelmed by the high percentage of positive comments from the outdoors and technology enthusiasts. We are happy to have the opportunity to bring The Mission to life and do it our way.

3.When can we expect to see The Mission available?

The Mission will be in stores this fall.

4. What’s next for Nixon? Any plans on launching any other wearable?

That’s a great question. We are exploring a variety of different concepts that utilize technology to enhance life and promote new value added experiences.

5.What’s your favorite wearable (besides your own one)?

Bluetooth headphones
